Myth 1: Cosplayers don’t (and can’t) have normal social lives.

Reality: Now this myth is completely wrong in one big reason the whole part of cosplaying is for people with this passion dress up and go out into this world to meet people who share their same love and passion there for giving them a social life.

Myths & Facts

Here on this page we are going to address some of the most outrages and/or some of the most misunderstandings that comes from cosplaying
Myth 2: Cosplayers are “Permanently Single”.
Reality: If anyone has ever been to any type of convention you would have been exposed to a lot of couples cosplaying together. I’ve even come across a whole family cosplaying together and if you’re lucky you might even come across a convention proposal. Which by the way if done right could be one of the most romantic things EVER.
Myth 3: Cosplayers are unhealthy, unhygienic, Acne-ridden weirdo’s that live in their mother’s basement.
Reality: Now this misunderstanding might be one of the most unfair accusations cosplayers have ever seen. The cosplay community has such a great diverse group of people participating. From adults to teenagers, from healthy people to unhealthy people it’s difficult and wrong to put all of us into one stereotype because not all of us fit that stereotype.
Myth 4: Cosplayers are all ‘weeaboos’.
Reality: Now to see why calling a cosplayer a weeaboo is completely wrong your going to have to understand what a weeaboo is. A weeaboo is a (not so very nice) term for westerners who get addicted to Japanese culture. And, while there are cosplayers (particular the younger crowd) who are interested in all things Japanese does not mean that every cosplayer enjoys or ever know a single thing about Japan.
Myth 5: Cosplayers only do anime and manga characters.
Reality: Cosplay isn’t only about dressing up as an anime or manga character. Many cosplayers dress up as a comic book character, a TV character, and even a movie characters. Cosplayers can be anyone or anything they chose to be.
Myth 6: Cosplayers have to make every piece of their costume.
Reality: Although many who cosplay strive to craft everything in their costume it's not a requirement. It's definitely okay to order or even commission pieces that are outside your skill level not everyone can make props, but that’s okay.
Myth 7: Cosplayers want to be their characters, so that’s why they dress up.
Reality: Some cosplayers may feel like they have a connection to the characters they dress as, but that doesn’t go for every cosplayer out there. Many cosplayers simply just love the character’s design or personality, but that has nothing to do with an underlying need to be some fictional character.
Myth 8: Female cosplayers are just trying to attract male attention.
Reality: This myth is absolutely ridicules. The ideas that ladies in costume are only dressed up to win male attention is completely wrong. If a cosplayer spends hours and hours actually making the costume, I’m pretty sure there doing it because they want to not for some random guy that they might see at the convention.
Myth 9: Cosplay is expressive! People who cosplay are irresponsible with money.
Reality: While some cosplay can cost you a pretty penny, not every cosplay fits that category. Having a budget weight making a cosplay might be heard but it is possible.
Myth 10: Cosplayers must look exactly like the character they are portraying.
Reality: Cosplay isn’t about looking like the characters, it's about dressing as a character you love and showing that love throws your cosplay. It doesn’t matter what race, body type, height, or even weight a person may be as long as that person has that love there is no denying them that character.
